So? What’s it about?

It only stands to reason that people will ask what my latest novel is about. I mean, it makes sense, right, that people will want to get that high-level overview?

So why do I ramble along, incoherently trying to hit all the salient points and all the plot twists? The answer is simple really. I’ve always been a lousy salesperson.

And so, while I chug along talking about the 1970s rock scene, people—either inevitably bored or impatient—will interrupt, and ask, “So it’s a book about rock and roll?”

“Well no,” I’ll reply, “It’s also about abandoning your one true love to chase your dreams.”

“So,” they’ll say, “It’s a love story?”

“Well, not really,” I’ll say, “It’s also about the unforeseen adversities that become a byproduct of someone’s lifelong dream.”

And that’s usually when people will shrug, look off into the distance, and say, “Hmm, very interesting.”

And that’s when I wonder if they really mean it. Did I sound convincing enough? Or did I just blow another elevator pitch?

Which is why I came up with the following blurb.

Stabb Bell has a secret. and not even the roar of fifty thousand fans can drown it out.

After he abandons his hometown and his one true love, Stabb Bell chases the dream of rock stardom across England, convinced that the long slog of dive bars and hostile audiences will soon pay off. And when Stabb does break through to become a 1970s rock idol, he just knows that the stadium spotlights will burn away the pain of the love he left behind.

He was wrong.

Because, behind the amplifiers and adoring crowds, something darker was waiting. Something that would turn triumph into suspicion, loyalty into betrayal, and fame into something far more dangerous.

Set against the raw, analog pulse of the 1970s rock explosion, ROCK KILLS is a story of ambition, regret, revenge, and the price of becoming exactly what you wished for.

And so, there you have it, my little blurb. If you’ve got a minute, please do let me know what you think.
